Insurance
Every trailer is fully insured, including approved cross-border trips to Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. If you claim, an excess applies: R5,000 within South Africa, R10,000 cross-border. Cover doesn't extend to damage from reckless or unlawful driving, an unlicensed driver, unapproved off-road use, or tyres — full detail in clause 6 of the Terms & Conditions.

A refundable deposit is payable before collection: R5,000 for trailers on local trips, R10,000 cross-border (R500 for fridges and small gear, R1,000 for larger equipment hired on its own). It's refunded within 5 working days of return, less any deductions for damage, missing items or cleaning.

Your tow vehicle needs a manufacturer-approved towbar rated for the trailer's weight, a standard 50mm tow ball, a working 7-pin or 12-pin electrical plug, and a minimum tare of 1,500kg. We check this at collection — if your vehicle doesn't meet it, we can't release the trailer.

A Code EB licence is legally required (and required by our insurer) to tow a trailer with a GVM above 750kg — a Code B licence is only sufficient at 750kg or below. All four trailers in our fleet exceed 750kg, so Code EB applies across the board.
